Blackjack Switch starts with two equal bets and gives you a choice to exchange the second card between the two starting hands. That flexibility comes with different settlement rules: the familiar version pays winning naturals at even money and pushes surviving non-blackjack hands against dealer 22. Learn both sides of the game before treating the swap as a free advantage.

What changes in Blackjack Switch?
Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood’s official Switch booklet describes two equally funded hands, an optional exchange of their second cards, even-money naturals and a dealer-22 push. It also specifies the dealer hits soft 17.
The exchange is optional. Keeping the original hands is one of the choices. After that decision, the hands are played and settled under the selected table’s rules.
This is different from simply playing two ordinary blackjack spots. In a normal multi-hand layout, controlling two hands does not grant permission to move cards between them, and it does not introduce a dealer-22 push.
Use the exact game’s instructions to confirm dealer soft 17, deck count, splitting, doubling and natural treatment. The Wizard of Odds Switch analysis distinguishes rule variations and separates the switching decision from later hand strategy.

Two equal starting bets change the minimum commitment
A hypothetical $5 per-hand minimum means $10 initially committed when the game requires two equal hands. It does not mean that the complete starting position costs $5.
Optional side wagers add more. If you choose a $1 side bet alongside two $5 main hands, the initial total is $11. Later permitted doubles or splits can increase the amount further.
Before choosing a stake, separate the per-spot minimum, the required two-spot total and the maximum amount you are willing to expose in the round. These are three different numbers.
For another accounting example, two $10 main hands start with $20 committed. Doubling one adds $10, making $30. If the other hand is then legally split, that adds another $10, making $40 before any further actions.
Those examples describe cost, not recommended moves. Use an affordable round limit, and do not select a higher per-hand stake merely because two visible positions look manageable.
Only the second cards are exchanged
Label each starting hand in deal order. In the first example below, the king and five are the first cards; the six and queen are the second cards. Exchanging the second cards moves the six and queen while leaving the king and five where they began.
| Position | Keep original cards | Exchange second cards |
|---|---|---|
| Hand one | King + 6 = hard 16 | King + queen = hard 20 |
| Hand two | 5 + queen = hard 15 | 5 + 6 = hard 11 |
This demonstrates what the exchange does. It is not a recommendation for every dealer card or rule set. A proper switching decision considers both resulting hands against the actual dealer upcard.
You do not exchange arbitrary cards later in the round, merge the hands into one total or move a drawn card because it would suit the other hand. Read the allowed timing carefully before using the interface.
A switched 21 is different from an original natural
An exchange can produce an ace with a ten-value card. Under the named Hollywood rules, that switched combination is a 21 rather than an original blackjack. Its settlement against dealer blackjack, 21 and 22 follows that category.
Consider starting with ace-eight and seven-king. Exchanging the second cards produces ace-king and seven-eight. The new ace-king looks like a natural, but its origin matters; the second resulting hand also changes from 17 to 15.
Do not evaluate the exchange solely by celebrating the first hand’s new 21. The other hand and the special status of the switched combination belong in the same comparison.
The Switch expected-value appendix makes a separate distinction between a natural and a blackjack-shaped hand formed by switching. Its entries require the stated assumptions; they are not a universal ranking for every product.
Dealer 22 is the settlement rule to remember
In the named profile, a dealer total of 22 pushes surviving non-blackjack player hands instead of paying them as wins. A player hand that already busted is not restored. An original player blackjack is treated separately.
| Player hand | Dealer result | Main-hand result |
|---|---|---|
| Unbusted 20 | 22 | Push. |
| Switched 21 | 22 | Push. |
| Original natural | 22 | Wins at even money. |
| Switched 21 | Ordinary 21 | Push. |
| Switched 21 | Dealer natural | Loses. |
| Original natural | Dealer natural | Push. |
Do not import the conventional rule “dealer over 21 means every surviving hand wins” without checking this exception. Equally, do not extend the 22 push to every possible dealer bust total.
Read the actual hand value rather than adding an ace as 11 when it must count as 1. A display containing an ace does not automatically mean that the dealer has busted.
Check three Switch misunderstandings
These are fixed explanations using the stated profile. They do not deal a game, choose an optimal switch or create any stake.
King-six and five-queen exchange their second cards
Reveal the resulting totals
King-queen becomes 20 and five-six becomes 11. Both hands must be considered in a switching analysis; the example only verifies card movement and totals.
A switched ace-king faces dealer 22
Reveal why the hand pushes
The exchanged ace-king is treated as switched 21, not an original natural. Under the named dealer-22 rule its stake returns without profit.
Two $10 hands: one busts, the other has 20; dealer makes 22
Reveal the complete round accounting
The busted hand loses $10. The surviving 20 pushes and returns its $10. Of $20 initially committed, $10 returns: a $10 net loss. A push on one hand does not make the entire round a push.
For a working learning habit, name the category first—bust, original natural, switched 21 or ordinary surviving hand—then apply the dealer outcome. That order helps avoid paying every 21 as if it were identical.
Switching strategy and playing strategy are separate
The first question is whether to exchange. The second is how to play each resulting hand. A conventional blackjack chart does not automatically solve either question because the dealer-22 settlement changes the game.
A switching analysis compares the combined expected results of both hands. You cannot settle it merely by maximizing the stronger hand or counting the number of points on the screen.
Here is an invented mathematical illustration, not values for actual cards. Suppose option A has expected results of +0.40 and −0.30 units, totaling +0.10. Option B has +0.15 and +0.10, totaling +0.25. Option B has the higher combined value even though option A contains the stronger individual number.
Actual reference values require the dealer card, rule set and correct treatment of naturals. Do not substitute the invented numbers above for those values or interpret a positive example as evidence that the real game is profitable.
When studying a published switching table, read its legend and assumptions first. Record both original hands in the correct card order so the reference answers the choice you actually have.
Even-money naturals change payout comparisons
For the named Switch profile, a winning $10 original natural earns $10 profit and returns $20 including its stake. A hypothetical conventional 3:2 natural on the same $10 would earn $15 profit and return $25.
The $5 difference on that event is one trade-off to read alongside the exchange opportunity and dealer-22 rule. It does not establish the full return of either game.
Keep the two initial hand wagers separate in your accounting. One natural win can occur alongside a loss or push on the other hand. Report the whole round against the total amount committed, not just the winning hand’s return.
Our Classic Blackjack guide explains ordinary natural payouts, while this page focuses on the Switch exceptions.
Super Match is a separate optional wager
The Hollywood booklet describes Super Match as a wager on the initial four player cards. It has its own rank-based paytable. It is separate from whether the two main hands later beat the dealer.
Read the exact categories and payments, whether the wager is optional and how it is settled. Four cards that produce a side-bet result can still require a difficult switching decision for the main game.
A separate bet on dealer 22, where offered, is different again. Its winning event does not convert the main-hand push rule into a win. Calculate each wager under its own paytable.
Do not combine an optional side wager with a casino welcome promotion in your notes. The former is part of a game; the latter adds account-level qualifying rules, contribution conditions and withdrawal terms.
Check the actual table before choosing it
Confirm two equal starting bets, permitted swap timing, original-natural payout, switched-21 status, dealer 22, dealer soft 17, decks and the rules for extra wagers. Keep the selected provider’s help available.
Then check the account decision separately: access, the precise variant’s bonus eligibility, affordable round exposure and withdrawal requirements. The presence of a casino listing does not answer every game-specific question.

Blackjack Switch questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to switch my cards?
No. In the described game, exchanging the second cards is optional. Keeping both original hands is a possible choice; a rule-matched switching reference helps compare the combined outcomes.
Can I exchange any card between the hands?
No. The described feature exchanges the second card of each initial hand at the permitted decision point. It does not allow moving arbitrary cards later in play.
Is an ace-king made by switching an original blackjack?
Not under the named Hollywood rules. It is treated as switched 21, with different settlement against dealer blackjack, ordinary 21 and 22.
Does dealer 22 make my busted hand a push?
No. The push concerns surviving eligible hands. A hand that already busted remains lost, so one push does not necessarily make the entire two-hand round break even.
What is the total at a $5 per-hand minimum?
With two required equal starting hands, the initial main-hand commitment is $10. Optional side bets and later permitted splits or doubles add to that amount.
Can I use an ordinary blackjack chart after switching?
Do not assume it applies. The dealer-22 settlement and other Switch conditions require a matching playing reference. The earlier choice to switch is also a separate decision.
Does a winning natural always pay 3:2 in Switch?
No. The profile described here pays winning original naturals at even money. Check the selected table rather than importing the conventional 3:2 expectation.
Do the casino offers guarantee that Switch is available?
No. Check the current lobby for the exact title, provider and access. Read the precise casino coupon’s game eligibility and contribution terms separately.
